Our Program

The Wave Function Project focuses on physical activity, creative outlets, hands-on activities and authentic community experiences in order to build the functional skills and social understanding that unlock fulfilling participation in the world.

How We Spend Our Days

Our camp runs Monday through Thursday, 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, for five weeks — June 29 through July 30, held at the Dare County Youth Center in Kill Devil Hills. We are dedicating one week to our elementary age students, one week to the older school-age population (18-22) and 3 weeks to the 12-17 year old group (the largest demographic.) Each week is intentionally structured to balance the comfort of familiar routines with the excitement of getting out and enjoying something new.

We provide a combination of in-house programming and community excursions every week. We begin each day with something campers love by closely with families to make sure each morning sets everyone up for a positive experience. Programming rotates through functional life skills like cooking, grocery shopping, and gardening — alongside music, dancing, creative arts, and plenty of outdoor and water play.

On community excursion days our campers get out into the Outer Banks — farm visits, festival grounds, bowling, arcades, local restaurants and more. Summer is for roaming.

We believe that full participation in a community is available to everyone.
